These Are The Advertised Skills Needed Of A Pharma Sales Representative

One way people find a pharmaceutical sales job is through searching the online job portal. Some of these portals are very interactive, and they can send you alerts through your Social Media platform, email or mobile devices when a new job is available. A very awesome feature!

One of the alerts could be for non-invasive healthcare product sales rep which you discover in the previous post. So, what do you think of it? Is it worth to consider?

For online and offline job posting, the thing you're going to see most likely is an advertisement. It tells you the title of the job, a short job description, responsibilities, requirements, and how to apply for it.

In this post, we're going to look at some of these 'advertised' skills needed for a pharmaceutical sales representative job. You can then look at my comment next to the listed qualifications, and link to added resources if you need to dig further. I aim to get you acquainted with this type of advertisement and polish your ability to respond to it.

If you find yourself lacking (or you feel like you're lacking) in any of the advertised area, you have enough resources available on this blog, for free I might add, to cover that shortfall and strengthen your current capabilities.

This is what typically stated in a Pharma sales rep job Ads:

As you can see, there are essential 5 requirements this Pharmaceutical Company wants you to fulfill. They cover the area such as:

  1. Marketing and Selling (obviously…)
  2. Achieving sales target – management and leadership
  3. Controlling expenditure – I call this resource management.
  4. Liaising with Marketing Team – aligning with the company’s strategy
  5. Establish ‘high level’ contact – relationship/rapport

And you know what:

All of the above skills can be developed and trained. You can pay for them, or you can grab your favorite beverage and spend some times reading what I have outlined in this blog – for free!

It’s your call…

And do you know what kind of person qualifies to apply?

Here’s a quick look (from the same ad):

You might be thinking to yourself

“A degree? Related pharma experience? What if I have none?”
Then you probably want to read this:

http://contrarian-sales-technique.blogspot.com/2010/09/do-you-need-degree-to-be-drug-rep.html

“Good communication and interpersonal skill…hmmm…”
You can take care of that, can’t you?

“Good command in English.”
This is a big IF; if you want to start with a Multinational Pharmaceutical Sales Company.

“Relationship management and skill.”
If you are a human, you are not living solely on your own in an isolated island far, far away; you stand a fair chance to get this right. It’s not that complicated.

“Teamwork!”
Serious issue but not after you get into the company. The main point is to focus on getting in. We’ll take care of the details once we got in.

“Interested in self-development.”
This factor is the X-factor; it makes or breaks your career.
I have been hammering for years that what determines how far you can go is not your academics or accolades, but it is your attitude.

I have shown you exactly what a pharmaceutical company looks for skills of pharma sales representative expected before and once he or she joins in. You can see for yourself that most of what is required is already in you. Can you see yourself as a sales rep for pharma company now? It is possible…
